Popovi Livadi Project

Hey there, friends!

I just had to share this heartwarming story about the Pink Foundation and the amazing work they're doing for kids. They believe that every child deserves a happy, healthy, and successful life, and they've created something truly special called the Pink Program to make that happen. This program covers five important areas: socialization, education, health and hygiene, community service, and life skills.

During the school year, Pink sets up after-school clubs in Peshtera, Tran, and Breznik. And when summer rolls around, they take it up a notch with some super fun and engaging summer camps. Last summer, they hosted a fantastic 4-day service project at Popovi Livadi, a beautiful mountain hut in the Pirin Mountain range, with kids from Pesthera. This wasn't just any camp – it was an adventure that challenged the older kids, helping them build endurance, teamwork, and self-confidence.

In 2023, the big project was to create an amphitheater stage and benches out of wood for the mountain hut grounds. They envisioned this space as a venue for talent shows and outdoor movie nights. The kids dove right in, helping with everything from site measurements to wood preparation. They split into groups, with some kids cleaning the area, others staining wood panels, and even more stripping tree stumps. As the stage took shape, they crafted benches from the stumps, sanding and staining them with care.

Now, the project wasn't without its challenges. While they finished on time and had a solid participation rate of about 80%, some kids found it hard to stay engaged throughout. This highlighted the need for better teamwork and ongoing participation. So, the folks at Pink are thinking about extending the project to a full week, adding more breaks, and integrating team-building activities. They also realized that giving clearer instructions could help keep the momentum going.

Despite these hiccups, the project was a huge success. It gave one particular child the chance to push her boundaries and embrace new challenges. For many of the kids, it was an opportunity to work in ways they hadn't before, marking a significant triumph in the project's impact and outcomes.

I'm so inspired by the Pink Foundation and the positive changes they're making in these kids' lives. It's stories like these that remind us of the power of community and the incredible potential of every child. Can't wait to see what they do next!
